Geochemistry Department

The Geochemistry Department teaches students to characterize the chemical composition and elemental distribution of Earth materials by combining isotope geochemistry with mineral-stability thermodynamic modeling. Students repeatedly practice reproducing geochemical differentiation through thermodynamic simulation, graduating able to trace the origin and history of Earth materials on their own, reading isotope data alongside thermodynamic models.
