Carbon Engineering Department

The Carbon Engineering Department trains students to become field-ready carbon storage specialists through rigorous theory and hands-on practice in permanent CO2 sequestration in deep geological formations. Students complete project-based coursework in (1) supercritical-CO2 injection and plume-migration simulation, (2) caprock-sealing and geochemical-trapping assessment, (3) monitoring-verification-accounting (MVA) framework design, and (4) CO2-EOR feasibility analysis, graduating and heading into the field with a completed track record of independently characterizing CCS sites and evaluating storage capacity in real-world settings.
