Geophysics Computing Lab Attends EAGE GET 2024 Conference
[Rotterdam=GeoVis] The Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL) headed to Rotterdam, Netherlands, to explore the forefront of global energy transition technologies.
Professor Ju-Won Oh and PhD candidate Sea-Eun Park attended 'EAGE GET 2024 (Global Energy Transition Conference & Exhibition)' held at the WTC Convention Center Rotterdam from November 4th to 8th, showcasing their latest research achievements in carbon storage technology.
On the 5th, the research team presented a poster on "Investigation of Anisotropic Characteristics through Seismic and CSEM Data from the Sleipner CCS Site". This research is the result of international collaborative research with Dr. Joonsang Park of the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), Dr. Malte Voge of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and Professor Alexey Stovas.
During the conference, the research team discussed continuous cooperation plans with NGI researchers and gathered in-depth information on global CCS technology trends and commercialization strategies.
Notably, a significant achievement was the field trip to the Porthos project on the last day. This project, aiming for commercial operation in 2026, is Europe's largest CCS demonstration project, injecting 2.5 million tons of COβ annually into North Sea offshore reservoirs. The research team directly observed the offshore pipeline installation process, gaining valuable insights into the actual implementation process of large-scale CCS projects.
Professor Ju-Won Oh stated, "Attending this conference allowed us to understand the current state of global CCS technology and provided an opportunity for our lab's technology to be recognized on the international stage." He added, "We will continue to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality through international collaborative research."
