Participation in Drone Micro-Degree Curriculum for Aerospace Drone Human Resources Development Project
[Jeonju=GeoVis] Jeonbuk National University announced that two courses taught by Professor Ju-Won Oh of the Computational Geophysics Lab (JBCGL) have been selected as micro-degree courses for the Aerospace-Drone Advanced Field Innovation Convergence University Project.
The selected courses are 'Computational Geophysics' and 'AI Geophysical Exploration', both of which are innovative curricula that combine core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution with geophysics.
The Aerospace-Drone Advanced Field Innovation Convergence University Project is a large-scale educational innovation project led by the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Jeonbuk National University. This project aims to foster future-oriented talents by converging various academic fields, focusing on aerospace and drone technologies.
A Micro-Degree is a short-term intensive curriculum designed to allow students to intensively acquire core competencies in a specific field. It aims to cultivate professionals who can quickly adapt to rapidly changing industrial environments through more flexible and practical education than traditional degree programs.
'Computational Geophysics' course covers modeling of geophysical phenomena using computer simulations and numerical analysis techniques. In particular, it focuses on computational techniques necessary for processing and interpreting aerial geophysical exploration data using drones.
'AI Geophysical Exploration' course introduces the latest techniques for applying machine learning and deep learning technologies to the field of geophysical exploration. It teaches AI-based innovative exploration technologies such as automatic analysis of drone exploration data, anomaly detection, and pattern recognition.
Both courses focus on pioneering new application areas through the convergence of aerospace drone technology and geophysics. In particular, they provide hands-on training on practical applications of drone-based geophysical exploration in environmental monitoring, disaster response, and resource exploration.
This selection is evaluated as a result of Professor Ju-Won Oh's expertise in geophysics and his deep understanding of the latest IT technologies. In particular, his advanced technological experience accumulated through international collaborative research was highly valued for its reflection in the curriculum design.
An official from the Department of Aerospace Engineering stated, "The convergence of geophysics and aerospace drone technology is a new growth engine for the future aerospace industry." They added, "We expect Professor Ju-Won Oh's expertise-based curriculum to provide practical help to students."
