[Jeonju=GeoVis] Professor Ju-Won Oh of the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL) announced his appointment as an evaluation committee member for the National Supercomputing Center (KISTI)'s Supercomputer No. 5 high-performance computing support program.

The National Supercomputing Center is a national high-performance computing infrastructure institution operated by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) under the Ministry of Science and ICT. It supports the enhancement of scientific and technological research competitiveness by providing top-level computing resources to domestic researchers.

Supercomputer No. 5, 'Nurion', is Korea's highest-performing supercomputer, ranked 14th worldwide as of November 2019. It has a theoretical peak performance of 25.7 petaflops (PFlops) and is used in various fields such as weather forecasting, new drug development, and energy research.

Professor Ju-Won Oh was selected as an evaluation committee member in recognition of his extensive experience in using large-scale supercomputers and expertise in parallel computing gained during his tenure at KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) in Saudi Arabia.

The high-performance computing support program evaluation committee reviews large-volume computing projects applied by researchers and conducts technical reviews for efficient resource allocation. In particular, it plays an important role in evaluating projects that require expertise in geophysics, energy exploration, and numerical modeling.

An official from the National Supercomputing Center stated, "Professor Ju-Won Oh is highly suitable as an evaluation committee member due to his international supercomputing experience and deep expertise in geophysics." They added, "We expect more professional and fair project reviews to be conducted in the future."

Professor Ju-Won Oh stated, "It is an honor to be able to contribute to research support using Korea's top-level supercomputing infrastructure." He added, "I will help domestic researchers improve their supercomputing utilization based on my experience accumulated overseas."
