Computational Geophysics Lab Hosts Professor Tariq Alkhalifah of KAUST
[Jeonju=GeoVis] Professor Tariq Alkhalifah of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, visited Jeonbuk National University during his trip to Korea to share his latest geophysical research.
Professor Alkhalifah, who leads geophysics research at KAUST, had lunch with members of the Computational Geophysics Lab (JBCGL) and toured key research infrastructure, including the lab and server room, deepening mutual understanding of each institution's research environment.
In an afternoon seminar, Professor Alkhalifah introduced the KAUST lab's members and core research areas, and shared his work on SiameseFWI, a self-supervised deep-learning-based full-waveform inversion technique. The visit also included discussion of the domain-specific geophysics agent being developed by Professor Ju-Won Oh, furthering academic exchange between the two institutions.
The visit is expected to strengthen research collaboration in geophysics between Korea and Saudi Arabia.
