Master's Student Hyeonggeun Ji Presents 3D CCS Monitoring Research at CREWES Annual Meeting
[Banff=GeoVis] Hyeonggeun Ji, a master's student researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced on the 14th that he presented his 3D CCS monitoring research findings at the 2023 CREWES Annual Meeting.
On December 8th, Hyeonggeun Ji presented on '3D full-waveform inversion of the Snowflake CO2 injection VSP data'. This research is about 3D full-waveform inversion-based COβ injection monitoring techniques using 3D VSP data acquired from the CaMI FRS (Field Research Station) in Canada.
The CREWES (Consortium for Research in Elastic Wave Exploration Seismology) Annual Meeting is a prestigious academic event attended by CREWES researchers from the University of Calgary and global energy companies such as BP, CGG, Chevron, Devon Energy Corporation, and Petrobras.
The meeting, held in Banff, Canada, from December 6th to 8th, focused on discussing the latest research trends and technical issues in seismic exploration and reservoir monitoring.
Hyeonggeun Ji's presentation was evaluated as proposing an innovative methodology for precisely tracking changes in underground reservoirs due to COβ injection using 3D full-waveform inversion techniques. In particular, he demonstrated the practicality of the technique through its application to actual field data from the Snowflake project.
Hyeonggeun Ji, who is currently conducting long-term dispatch research at CREWES in Canada, stated, "It was very meaningful to be able to present my research findings in front of world-renowned researchers and industry experts." He added, "I will continue to contribute to the development of CCS monitoring technology in the future."
