Professor Ju-Won Oh Publishes Paper in Geophysical Journal International

[Jeonju=GeoVis] Professor Ju-Won Oh of the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL) announced that he has published a research paper in 'Geophysical Journal International', a top-tier journal in the field of geophysics.

The published paper is titled "Analysis of sensitivity patterns for characteristics of magnetotelluric (MT) response functions in inversion", and it is a study that analyzed the sensitivity patterns for the characteristics of response functions in magnetotelluric (MT) inversion.

Magnetotellurics is a technique that uses the Earth's natural electromagnetic field to explore the subsurface electrical resistivity structure, and it is used in various fields such as geothermal exploration, groundwater exploration, and mineral exploration. In particular, it is advantageous for understanding deep subsurface structures and plays an important role in deep geothermal development and characterization of carbon reservoirs.

This research presented a method to improve the reliability of inversion results by systematically analyzing the sensitivity characteristics of data during the MT inversion process. In particular, the quantitative analysis of the influence of different components of the response function on subsurface imaging received academic attention.

The paper was conducted through collaborative research with Seoul National University, and the validity of the research results was verified through theoretical analysis and numerical experiments. The research results are expected to contribute to improving the accuracy of MT exploration data interpretation and efficient exploration design.

Geophysical Journal International is a leading international journal in the field of geophysics published by the Royal Astronomical Society.
