Geophysics Computing Lab Selected for Jeonbuk National University Global Companion Project

[Jeonju=GeoVis] Graduate students from the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL) announced on the 28th that they have been selected for the Jeonbuk National University Graduate School Global Companion Project.

The selected students are master's researchers Kim Seokhan, Hyeonggeun Ji, and Jin-Young Park, and the project title is 'Establishing an Exchange System for CCS Monitoring Demonstration Research'.

The project period is four months, from October 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023, and will receive a total of 3 million won in research funding.

The Global Companion Project is an international exchange activation program organized by the Jeonbuk National University Graduate School, aiming to strengthen graduate students' global research capabilities and build international networks.

Through this project, the research team plans to establish systematic exchange relationships with overseas research institutions in the field of CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) monitoring. In particular, they will explore methods for comparing and analyzing monitoring technologies at demonstration research sites and for collaborative research.

CCS technology is a key technology for achieving carbon neutrality, and continuous monitoring is essential for the safe storage of injected CO₂. For this, securing international-level monitoring technology and comparative research with overseas demonstration projects are important.

A lab official stated, "Through this project, we will expand our international research network in the CCS monitoring field and establish a cooperation system based on demonstration research." They added, "We will produce results that can contribute to the development of domestic CCS technology."
