Researcher Sea-Eun Park Departs for Long-Term Dispatch to University of Calgary, Canada

[Calgary=GeoVis] Sea-Eun Park, a master's student researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced her departure for a six-month long-term research dispatch to the University of Calgary in Canada.

This dispatch was promoted as part of the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP)'s Global Innovative Talent Nurturing Project. The project is titled 'Development of Artificial Intelligence Technology for Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide Leak Detection in Blue Hydrogen-Linked Pipeline Networks', with Professor Youngsoo Lee participating as the principal investigator.

Sea-Eun Park will conduct CO2 geological storage monitoring research at the University of Calgary for six months, from March 1 to August 31, 2022. The collaborative research will be conducted with Professor Jung-Woo Kim of the Department of Geomatics Engineering and Professor Kris Innanen of the Department of Earth Sciences.

Of particular note is the CREWES (Consortium for Research in Elastic Wave Exploration Seismology) consortium operated by the University of Calgary's Department of Earth Sciences. CREWES is a world-leading seismic exploration research consortium, holding a unique position in the oil and gas exploration field.

Through this dispatch research, Sea-Eun Park is expected to acquire the latest CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) monitoring technology and develop an international sense in Canada's advanced research environment. It is also expected to serve as a stepping stone for establishing a continuous collaborative research network between the two institutions.

The Global Innovative Talent Nurturing Project is a government policy project that supports excellent domestic talents to gain long-term research experience at world-class overseas research institutions. It aims to foster researchers with global competitiveness in key technology fields of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
