Master's Student Sea-Eun Park Presents Seabed Seismic Research at Marine Engineering Society Joint Conference

[Online=GeoVis] Sea-Eun Park, a master's student researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced on the 28th that she presented her seabed seismic exploration research findings at the 2021 Korea Marine Engineering Society Spring Joint Conference.

Sea-Eun Park presented her research on 'Application of 3D Reverse Time Migration to Pohang Yeongil Bay Seabed Seismic Survey Data' at the conference, which was held online via the official YouTube channel from June 24th to 25th, 2021.

This research involves applying the 3D Reverse Time Migration technique to seabed seismic data acquired from the Pohang Yeongil Bay area to realize high-resolution subsurface images.

Reverse Time Migration is a cutting-edge technique that enables accurate imaging even in complex geological structures, and it shows excellent performance in detailed structural analysis of seabed sediments.

The research was conducted with support from the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning, and received exploration data from Equinor, Norway, for comparative verification.

The 2021 conference was held entirely online due to the COVID-19 situation and served as an important platform for sharing convergent research trends in marine engineering and geophysics.

The Korea Marine Engineering Society Joint Conference is a large-scale academic event involving various engineering societies related to marine affairs, and interest in marine resource exploration and seabed structure analysis research is growing.

Sea-Eun Park stated, "It was a valuable opportunity to interact with various researchers in the field of marine geophysics." She added, "It helped me explore practical applications of seabed seismic technology."
