Master's Student Sea-Eun Park Receives Best Student Paper Presentation Award in Oral Presentation Category at 2021 KSEG Fall Resources Joint Conference

[Jeonju=GeoVis] Sea-Eun Park, a master's student researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced that she received the Best Student Paper Presentation Award in the oral presentation category at the 2021 Fall Resources Joint Conference of the Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysicists.

Sea-Eun Park received this award for her research paper on '3D Seismic Imaging Using Diffraction-Angle Filtering Technology'. This research is about advanced signal processing techniques for high-resolution imaging of subsurface structures, and it proposes an innovative approach that overcomes the limitations of existing seismic imaging technologies.

Diffraction-angle filtering technology is an advanced technique that effectively separates and utilizes diffracted wave components from seismic data to image fine features of subsurface structures. In particular, it has attracted academic attention for its superior performance over existing methods in detecting complex geological structures or small anomalies.

The Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysicists Fall Resources Joint Conference is a representative academic event in the domestic geophysical exploration field, serving as an important platform for sharing the latest research achievements and technological trends annually. In particular, the Best Student Paper Presentation Award was established to encourage creative research by young researchers who will lead the future of geophysics.

This award is evaluated as a recognition of Sea-Eun Park's excellent research capabilities and the outstanding research achievements of the Geophysics Computing Lab. In particular, a master's student winning an award in the oral presentation category is significant as it recognizes both the completeness of the research and presentation skills.

Professor Ju-Won Oh encouraged her, stating, "I am very proud that Sea-Eun Park achieved excellent research results by creatively applying difficult signal processing techniques."
