Researcher Sea-Eun Park Completes Polar Expert Training Program
[Jeonju=GeoVis] Sea-Eun Park, a master's student researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced that she has successfully completed the 6th Polar Expert Training Program organized by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST).
Sea-Eun Park participated in this program, which ran for a total of six months from July to December 2021, and completed various training courses, including polar science theory education, expert seminars, and field visits.
The Polar Expert Training Program is an educational program conducted annually by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology to foster specialized personnel in the field of polar science in Korea. It provides comprehensive education across all areas of polar science, including polar climate change, marine environment, and polar policy.
This 6th program included practical training such as visits to actual polar research institutions and experience with research equipment, along with lectures by domestic and international polar research experts. Participants learned about the latest trends in polar research and had opportunities to network with experts in related fields.
Sea-Eun Park, majoring in geophysics, had a particular interest in the geophysical characteristics of polar regions and climate change research, making her participation in this program especially meaningful. Through the program, she gained a deep understanding of the multidisciplinary approach to polar science and the importance of international collaborative research.
An official from the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology stated, "Polar science is a core field for understanding global environmental change, and systematic training of specialized personnel is essential." They added, "We hope that this program will produce excellent talents who will lead future polar research."
Sea-Eun Park stated, "Through the six-month training program, I was able to learn about a wide range of polar science fields." She added, "I will continue to explore the geophysical characteristics of polar regions more deeply in my future research."
