Researcher Sea-Eun Park Selected for Polar Expert Training Program

[Jeonju=GeoVis] Sea-Eun Park, a master's student researcher at the Computational Geophysics Lab of Jeonbuk National University (JBCGL), announced that she has been selected for the 6th Polar Expert Training Program organized by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST).

The Polar Expert Training Program is an educational program conducted annually by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology to systematically foster specialized personnel who will lead future polar research. It aims to cultivate experts in polar science and policy, and selects excellent talents through a rigorous selection process.

This 6th program will run for a total of 21 weeks, from July 12 to December 10, 2021. The curriculum consists of various forms, including online lectures on polar issues, offline seminars, and domestic field visits.

In online lectures, participants will learn core theories of polar science, such as polar climate change, marine environment, and geophysical characteristics. Through offline seminars, they will have opportunities for direct academic exchange with domestic and international polar research experts. In addition, they can experience actual research sites by visiting domestic polar research-related institutions.

Sea-Eun Park, majoring in geophysics, has an interest in the geophysical characteristics of polar regions and climate change research, making her participation in this program particularly meaningful. Through the program, she gained a deep understanding of the multidisciplinary approach to polar science and the importance of international collaborative research.

An official from the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology stated, "Polar science is a very important field for understanding climate change and global environmental change, and systematic training of specialized personnel is essential."
