Geophysics Computing Lab Attends 2019 KSMER Spring Conference

[Daejeon=GeoVis] The Geophysics Computing Lab at Jeonbuk National University announced on the 28th that it attended the 2019 Korea Society of Mineral and Energy Resources (KSMER) Spring Conference and presented its research findings.

The conference was held at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) in Daejeon from May 9th to 10th, 2019. The lab presented research on 'Frequency-Domain Reverse Time Migration for Seabed Seismic Survey Data Considering Transverse Isotropic Media'.

This research focuses on high-precision imaging techniques for seabed seismic exploration that consider the characteristics of transverse isotropy (VTI, Vertical Transverse Isotropy). In particular, it implemented improved seabed geological structure images compared to existing methods through the Reverse Time Migration technique in the frequency domain.

The research was conducted with funding from the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement and the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, and its practicality was verified by receiving actual seabed survey data from Equinor, Norway.

Structural correction techniques considering transverse isotropic media are essential for accurate subsurface imaging in seabed environments where sedimentary layers are well developed, and are widely used in marine resource exploration and seabed geological hazard assessment.

The KSMER Spring Conference is a representative academic event in the domestic resource engineering field, serving as an important platform for discussing the latest research trends and technological developments annually.
